Wow! It has been a long time since I posted. This year I changed schools and boy was the change something I was not expecting. Don't get me wrong, I love my new school and I have found that it does not matter what school you work in, kids are the same. They all have the same kinds of needs, just different little faces.
What threw me for a loop was the idea that I have been doing this 21 years so it would not be hard to move. We have computers these days, I have all my stuff in files. I'll just do my thing in a different place. Right? Boy was I wrong. My first indication was moving from a school where the Counseling offices were on their own hall. I could yell out a question to my co-counselor through the wall. I knew when she was in her office and not. I could depend on her to talk to my kids if they came to my office while I was teaching a class. Now, my co-counselor is upstairs on the other side of the school. We still talk, but we have to make appointments to get together or I have to call her on the phone. It's just not the same. And my office...well now it is a classroom! I do love having the space. It's great, but I had to fill it. That was a lot of work and as lot of money even refurbishing used furniture so it would all match. I still have not put up lots of posters for fear I will be bumped out of this room next year. I think the biggest thing, though, is I just can't use my saved files and all the things I have done in the past. They all have to be updated. For instance Career Days. They all have to have my new school's name, the new times that work with this schedule, my new phone number and address, my new co-counselor's name, my new principal's name, etc, etc, etc. And how many Career Day files do I have to update and proof to make sure I did not miss anything? Oh maybe two dozen. And that is just for Career Week. I have to do that for every file I have! It is time consuming. You see, it was not as easy as I thought it would be. So all of this was to explain where I have been - not on my blog, but revamping my program at my new school. And here are the pictures to prove it. This is my new humble abode:
This was my little office for the last 8 years.

Yep! That's all my 21 years of stuff all boxed up. It does not even include my furniture!
And now this huge classroom is all mine!

Great news! There is a nature trail behind the school.

Love the nature trail!

I made my welcome sign out of an old, oval frame and foam board.

My play area with a bookshelf of toys and magnetic board to display student work.
Another white board that I had to do something with because it was soooo blah.

With a sand box and rolling drawer full of sand toys.
My desk and counseling area.

My small group table - I love having a place to work at a table!

Here's a cozy place to solve peer disputes with a huge bulletin board.

The right side..those are plastic plates with messages written in dry erase markers so I can change them!

A left over wreath re-purposed with my initial.
My Door.

The outside huge bulletin board!
That I never change!
Really i feel guilty for not changing it, but it is A LOT of work!
My FAVORITE bulletin board outside my door. It's interactive and I can change the message!
